About the Role

As a Backend Engineer (Java) at Circus, you will play a crucial role in shaping the future of food automation. Leveraging your expertise in Java and Spring Boot, alongside your experience with microservices, you will contribute to building robust backend systems that power our autonomous food production solutions. You will have the opportunity to work on exciting projects such as cloud integration for our kitchen robots and developing a workflow/task engine to streamline kitchen processes.

Your Daily Business

Design, develop, and maintain Java-based backend systems using Spring Boot framework.
Implement microservices architecture to ensure scalability, modularity, and resilience of backend services.
Be part of a cross-functional team to develop cloud integration solutions for our kitchen robots, enabling seamless communication and data exchange between the cloud and robotic systems.
Develop a workflow/task engine to streamline kitchen processes, optimizing efficiency and productivity in food production operations.
Interface with robotics and kitchen staff to understand requirements and implement backend solutions that meet their needs effectively.
Utilize PostgreSQL databases for efficient data storage, retrieval, and management, ensuring data integrity and performance.
Contribute to DevOps practices including containerization (Docker), cloud deployment (AWS), and CI/CD pipelines for efficient software delivery and deployment.
Participate in code reviews, testing, and debugging to ensure high-quality, reliable software solutions.
Stay updated with emerging technologies and best practices in backend development, contributing to the continuous improvement of Circus's technical ecosystem.

Base Qualifications

Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in Java development, preferably with Spring Boot and microservices architecture.
Proficiency in SQL for database development and management.
Experience with cloud integration and deployment, ideally with AWS services.
Familiarity with DevOps practices and tools such as Docker, Maven, and CI/CD pipelines.
Strong problem-solving skills and ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams.
Passion for innovation and a desire to contribute to groundbreaking developments in autonomous food production.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with robotics interfaces or automation systems.
Familiarity with frontend technologies such as JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.
Experience in Kotlin is a plus.
Knowledge of agile development methodologies such as Scrum or Kanban.
